So far almost 6000 models presented their tattoos on our stage. Tattoo contests are the essence of our convention and for the viewers opportunity to see and compare works on the highest level.

Modern Black Tattoo – As ancient as time, as modern as tomorrow.

“Modern Black Tattoo” category concerns both monochromatic tattoos (referring to traditional, „tribal” styles of Oceania, Asia etc.) and modern exponent’s works freely inspired with traditional symbols and patterns, without ignoring artists who are into art brut and graphic stylistics. Black colour which is fundamental for the whole composition is required, but we allow using accents in different colours. Category contains varied techniques, from traditional handtapping or handpoking to usage of modern tattoo machine. “Modern Black Tattoo” is intended for artists who represent dotwork, art brut, neotribal styles and of course this one which is related to traditional ethnic tattoo. Honorary juror of this category is tattooed anthropologist and worker of Warsaw Asia and Pacific Museum – Tomasz Madej.

Women’s composition

This category is for women. Tattoos will be judge for suitability to the anatomy of the female body, composition and aesthetic location of the theme. The jury will also pay attention to the selection of tattoo to character and style of the model. Technical and artistic qualities are here equally important but the priority is composition, not a single, well-made tattoo.

Best Sleeve

This is a new category in which will be presented large tattoos qualify to the conditions: tattoos must cover the entire arm or leg. Besides of that, the tattoo need to have a consistency topic.

Non-traditional tattoo

In this category will be presented only tattoos made in neo-traditional style. The jury will pay attention to characteristic elements of this trend, tattooing technique and symbols. In this category you can submit works kept in shades of gray or colourful.

Surrealistic tattoo

In this category will be presented tattoos that correspond with the idea of surrealism. The jury will pay attention to main theme of the tattoo and other aspects that are characteristic of this style. In this category you can submit works kept in shades of gray or colourful.

Best of Day (Saturday)

Here we have tattoos made on the first day of the festival. It is not acceptable the retouch or refresh healed tattoos.

Large Black & Grey

Please submit to this category tattoos in black and gray and larger than A4. It is acceptable to use maximally two more colours (eg. white and red).

Small colour

Please submit to this category coloured tattoos that are not larger than A4.

Small Black & Grey 

Please submit to the category tattoos in black or shades of gray, which are no larger than A4. It is allowd to use additionally max. two colours (eg. white and red).

Large colour

Here will be judged multicoloured tattoos larger than A4.

Best of Day

Here we have tattoos made on the first day of the festival. It is not acceptable the retouch or refresh healed tattoos.


RULES OF APPLICATIONS

A) To the contest can be submitted all the tattoos, also made by individuals without booth (not acceptable from the category „Tattoo of the Day”).

B) Each tattoo can be reported only in one category!

C) During the registration a model for the contest everybody must give name and surname (or nickname) and the name of the artist and his studio. The jury will not have the access to the letter with artist name and studio. Each model will have granted a different number, which will be called to the stage.

D) At the time of registration to the category you have to present a tattoo or a picture of the tattoo. The recording person has the right to refuse to submit a particular tattoo to a particular or any category. In this way they will be verified tattoos showing too low level or those that don’t fit into any category.

DAGMARA NAWIKAS-MISIUK
DAGMARA NAWIKAS-MISIUK

Her adventure with tattoos started in 1993 and since then she has been working actively on the Polish tattoo scene. She is the founder of Gdansk’s „Tat Studio”, in which she also works as tattooer. Dagmara is an example of a person for whom tattoos have become a passion. She pays great importance to symbolism contained in her work. With her objective approach, commitment and experience she has been supporting the convention from its very beginning. She has been evaluating exhibited work since the second edition as a member of the jury. After a break in 2010, she returned in its ranks.

 

SLAWEK FRACZEK
SLAWEK FRACZEK

As a tattooer he gained attention in 1993 by winning the first prize at the Bremen Tattoo Convention. Later, he was repeatedly spotlighted at international festivals. He is the co-founder of the I. and II. Megatattoo Art Tattoo Festival in Warsaw (1998 and 1999) and the „Art of decorating the body through the ages” (1999) exhibition at the National Museum in Pila. He believes that the building and the improvement of one’s style is the work of a lifetime. Thanks to Slawek a lot of people have set their first steps in the industry. He is recognizable by the typical elements of his style, present in all tattoos made by him. Works in “Tattoo & Piercing” in Poznan, which he founded in 1992. He is a permanent member of the Tattoofest jury.

 

SZYMON GDOWICZ
SZYMON GDOWICZ

He s a debutant in the role of a juror. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, where he studied painting with a specialization in new media. He befriended the tattoo machine quite recently, in 2012, but more than a decade of experience in the field of visual arts enabled him to quickly join the ranks of recognizable Polish tattooists. He likes to combine different media, in addition to the tattoo, painting and drawing, he is fascinated by photography, film, and other, less conventional artistic activities. Tattooer from 2013, associated with the Krakow studio „Kult Tattoo Fest”.

 

JUNIOR
JUNIOR

He is one of the most prominent figures on the Polish tattoo scene. Tattooing since 1997, the same year he enrolled in art school in Warsaw. With his tattoo machine he has visited many European countries as well as Japan, Brazil and the USA. He has participated in numerous international conventions, during which he won more than one hundred awards. He was also awarded the title of „Best tattooer of the last twentieth century in Poland”. He co-organizered the Tattooshow in Warsaw (2002), Tattooshow in Katowice (2003) and Warsaw Tattoo Convention (2013 and 2014) conventions. Since 2005 he has been running his own studio „Juniorink” in Warsaw, which is facetiously considered the Worst Studio In The City. As an artist he engages mainly in large projects. He is one of the first Polish tattooists who began to use a rich palette of colors. Moreover, Junior is the author of numerous art exhibitions and the author of the „Juniorink Woman” calendar project.
